      Biography

Ricardo Negro is a Brazilian Street Artist. From an early age, he showed an interest in the world of images and, in his work, one can clearly see the more colourful and happy spirit of Brazilian favelas. All of his work follows the Havaianas line and conveys the essential Brazilian values of happiness, colour and joy.

Favelas are his biggest source of inspiration. The artists depicts the real scenarios of the shantytowns in the Complexo de Grajaú, one of the largest communities located on the southern end of the city of São Paulo, where Ricardo Negro grew up and still lives today. All the models in this range feature the distinctive Havaianas colours, as well as a multitude of little houses, always very colourful and placed side by side: one of the artist’s hallmark designs.

He developed a new point of view, a new way of seeing the beauty, the colour and the happiness of Favelas. Ricardo Negro draws his influences from Cubism, Pop Art as well as from the works of Modigliani, Bosh, Diego Rivera, Nelson Screnci, Di Cavalcanti, Portinari, Almeida Júnior, amongst other artists, and also from graffiti, of course. The alias Ricardo Negro comes from the artist’s wish to highlight and raise the profile of Brazil’s black community, the legacy and power inherited from its ancestors.

The Street Artist, Ricardo Negro, working with Havaianas, brings us a work of art in the form of three flip-flops that reflect the highly fun and colourful heart and spirit of Brazilian favelas. All of his work follows the Havaianas line and conveys the essential Brazilian values of happiness, colour and joy.

Art is one the most beautiful and authentic ways to share a country’s culture. Ricardo Negro has collaborated with Havaianas on three different designs, representing the way Brazilian communities see beauty and happiness. These new models aim to reflect the spirit of Brazilian street art and incorporate the country’s culture into the designs, thus showing the diversity of favela life through very expressive colours.
